WS-X6708-10G-3CXL muscles past the WS-X6708-10G-3C

With the Formula 1 racing this weekend, and all season long, it is hard to not be inspired by lighting fast and well designed works of art on wheels.    We also admire the sheer Power and Presence of days gone by with the 60’s Muscle Cars.

When it comes to Cisco Cards listed below, we get a buzz from the power they deliver, here is the HP / Specs on these bad boys….

The Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series 10 Gigabit Ethernet modules are designed for deployment in the distribution and core of campus and data center for traffic aggregation or for interbuilding, points of presence (POPs), WAN edge, and MAN connections. These modules support IEEE 802.3ad link aggregation and Cisco EtherChannel technology for fault-tolerant connectivity and bandwidth scalability of up to 80 Gbps per EtherChannel connection. In addition, they support hardware based quality of service (QoS), access control lists (ACLs), and jumbo frames to enable secure and predictable performance for bandwidth-intensive applications. The WS-X6708-10G-3C is equipped with DFC3C for distributed forwarding, supporting 256K routes.

Power is, as Power does.

The Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series offer a variety of 10 Gigabit Ethernet modules to serve different needs in the campus and data center for enterprise, commercial, and service provider customers: 16-port 10 Gigabit Ethernet module, 8-port 10 Gigabit Ethernet module, and 4-port 10 Gigabit Ethernet module. These modules support pluggable optics to support distances up to 80 km over single-mode fiber, 300m over multimode fiber, and 15m over copper.

The 8-port 10 Gigabit Ethernet module provides up to 66 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports in a single Cisco Catalyst 6500 chassis and 132 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports in a VSS. It supports 64 Gbps of local switching, ideal for deployment in the core or aggregation layer of LAN campus and data centers. All 8 ports can be used to create a virtual switch link in a VSS.

The Cisco Virtual Switching Supervisor Engine 720 includes:
-Two X2-based 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports, ideal for high-density access and aggregation areas such as data center, LAN campus, and backbone areas.
-Two Gigabit Ethernet Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) ports and one 10/100/1000 gigabit port for additional flexibility. All the links in the Cisco Virtual Switching Supervisor Engine 720 can be active simultaneously even in the redundant configurations, thereby increasing the supervisor throughput from 48 to 82 Mpps. This improves total system performance to 450 Mpps for IPv4 traffic and 225 Mpps for IPv6 traffic.
-Additional fabric capabilities offering subsecond failover rates, allowing faster switchover to a standby supervisor. The Cisco Virtual Switching Supervisor Engine 720 with 10 Gigabit Ethernet uplinks
