I received an email from an Avaya partner that asked partners to ignore the rumors about an Avaya IPO and focus on other matters. Seemed a bit patronizing to me, just my .02 cents worth. Two days later, what happened, shock of all shocks. Email saying Avaya will have an IPO. It ain’t easy being a partner when the winds of change keep blowing, and changing direction and blowing. Good luck to them, I hope it brings some stability in the next few quarters to a channel that has been tossed around the last year or more. So what are we seeing and expecting from the rebranding of the “Blue” and the “Red” ( Nortel and Avaya respectively ) sides of the house. Well everything that was Nortel Networks will be in Avaya Packaging, thus far the part numbers have remained constant. THANK GOD! Remember Checkpoint takeover of Nokia Networks?! You need to be Rainman to be able to remember old and new parts and cross reference. (The familiar chorus of remember when the customer was always right keeps ringing in my ear.)
So what does that mean to someone who wants a Nortel 5520 series GigE Switch? Well the 24 port AL1001C06-E5 & 48 port AL1001C05-E5 PoE Switches are the same part numbers.
This is a blessing believe me. As there are six part numbers for the same switch with different Country Power Cords. i.e. AL1001B05-E5 ( EU ), AL1001C05-E5 ( North America ), AL1001E05-E5 ( UK ) 48 ports switches are all the same. As the AL1001B06-E5 ( EU ), AL1001C06-E5 ( North America ), AL1001E06-E5 ( UK ) 24 ports switches are all the same too.
No doubt there will be more to follow soon.
Until then it’s goodbye from the Team at ICPnetworks.
